I have not been on the Tim Tebow train and admittedly, I’m still not on it, but, what happened in the playoff game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Denver Broncos would make anyone stop and pause for a moment…
Disclosure: Since I am a Browns fan first and foremost; I went into this game pulling for the Broncos. Not because of Tebow, but, because I’d rather see the Steelers lose. Historically, the Browns and the Steelers have been arch rivals, until, of course, the Baltimoron Ravens came along. So now, I/we only have mild contempt for the Steelers. But, contempt none the less. And they beat us in our last regular season game last week… Still hurts – we almost beat ‘em. Anyway, back to the game at hand.
Tim Tebow did a great job. Clearly a better job than Ben Roethlisberger, which, isn’t that hard to do. The Broncos’ offense really ran the field – defense held their own, but, the offense won that game. But, I do have to criticize the Broncos as well…
They got to the 4th quarter and let the Steelers tie the game. This is also my moment to give praise to the Steelers for not giving in at all. At some point I think they realized, they were losing the game on stupid things like interceptions. Once that sunk in, the game was on. If only they’d had 5 more minutes in regulation, I think the game would have ended differently. But, look how it ended…
A single pass from Tebow to Demaryius Thomas, who, ran it in for a TD and ended the game in 11 seconds. 80 yard return in 11 seconds. History books. Thomas did good. And like him or not, you gotta give Tebow his due. First season in the NFL and he manages to set an NFL record. He’s either headed for greatness or doomed to spend his career trying to live up to his record-setting game. I think it might be the former…
But, now the Broncos have to face Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. Good luck with that. The last time that happened, it didn’t go so well. Tebow got to see what a seasoned, elite, precision quarterback looks like and his novice did show by the end of the game. He’s really gonna need Demaryius Thomas next week. I’m not necessarily a Pats fan either, but, you can’t deny their quality. Especially when Tom Brady is in the zone.
So, game on. Good luck Tim Tebow, you’re gonna need it…
