Tennis 2013

I’ve decided it makes more sense for me to combine my thoughts about Wimbledon and the U.S. Open into one post since my total viewing for both might equal one match in total time…

Wimbledon men’s singles: I called it last year. So, Andy Murray has finally won Wimbledon. I saw none of it, but, called all of it…

If you’ve watched Andy Murray play, you knew it was coming. He still has the desperation tennis players have before they become celebrities. Once they become celebrities, I feel that their game suffers. This is why Andy Murray won and Novak Djokovic lost… and keeps losing…

Which brings me to the U.S. Open…

Final for the U.S. Open was Djokovic and Raphael Nadal – same as last year. Nadal won – same as last year. I’ve actually stopped enjoying watching the two of them play. It’s almost as if they’re just going through the motions. I’m ready for some new blood.

I have noticed two things though: Raphael Nadal hasn’t played in Wimbledon in the last few years and Andy Murray only does well at Wimbledon. Maybe Murray has been focusing on winning Wimbledon to break the drought for UK players. Drought broken, now I hope we get to see Andy Murray excel at Wimbledon, the U.S. Open and the French Open.

Wimbledon women’s singles: Have no idea who the two ladies were in the final – Marion Bartoli of France defeated Sabine Lisicki of Germany. Bartoli was ranked 15th in the world and Lisicki ranked 23rd. So what was going on with players 1-14? Is Wimbledon not a priority? I’m gonna need to look into what’s going on with Wimbledon…

Serena Williams won the U.S. Open, beating Victoria Azarenka of Bulgaria. They ranked one and two. Good match, but, I’ve seen them play before too. Congrats to Serena for winning her fifth U.S. Open title and also for winning the French Open, but, I’ve got a new girl to watch… Sloane Stephens.

She’s a 20 year old American and as I watched her play Serena, I could see where she was headed, much like Andy Murray a few years ago. Keep watching her move up the charts…

No grand slam winners this year. Maybe next year. See you then…
