Is having a “virtual baby shower” and asking for gifts tacky? RM via twitter
So RM:
I want to first retweet my answer: Yes, a “virtual baby shower” is tacky. More for the breakdown of personal relationships. Notice, I didn’t mention the issue of gifts.
Just as a clinically unlicensed observer, my thought is that this person is selfish and inconsiderate and I would bet your relationship with this person is mostly about them. Let me know if I’m wrong, but…
Here’s an idea – if you want to make sure your host gets the message as these kinds of people can be a bit thick, send her a link of the gift you would have bought her BUT FOR the fact that the shower is “virtual.” “Virtual” showers mean “virtual” gifts, right? See how that goes over…
Short of the host being bed-ridden or in another country, I don’t see how this makes any sense. I haven’t been to ANY baby showers, so, I’m working from hearsay, but, isn’t one of the best things about these showers that all you ladies get to spend the afternoon playing shower games and bonding as mothers, daughters, women, etc.? Doesn’t the “virtual” part interrupt the bonding? That’s like a girls night out over XBox…
If it comes to it, bow out gracefully, wait until she has the baby and give her/them something of which no one else has thought. Those are always the best gifts no matter when they get it…
